What Is PRP Therapy?
Platelet-Rich Plasma is the most effective method to accelerate healing and osseointegration. In this video, Vahid Bashi, DDS, discusses the PRP therapy process.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a cutting-edge treatment that leverages the healing properties of your own blood to enhance recovery, particularly in dental procedures like bone grafts. The process involves drawing a small amount of your blood, which is then placed in a specialized machine that spins the blood to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. This plasma is rich in proteins that significantly aid in the healing process.
These plasma proteins are known to accelerate healing and improve the outcome of treatments. For instance, in cases where there’s a deficiency in the jawbone and a bone graft is necessary, applying the proteins from your plasma can help the area heal more quickly and effectively integrate the bone graft material with your existing bone structure.
The use of PRP therapy is not limited to dental applications; it’s also employed in medical treatments for severe burns, trauma, and other conditions requiring tissue regeneration. Its effectiveness in promoting faster and better healing has been well-documented across various medical fields.
Although incorporating PRP therapy into a procedure requires additional preparation time—specifically, the collection and processing of blood—the benefits it offers in terms of enhanced healing and improved outcomes are substantial. It’s a technique I highly recommend and use whenever possible, given its proven track record of significantly better results compared to traditional methods without PRP.
