You may have heard that brushing and flossing are important parts of protecting your oral health. You may also know that you should visit our team twice a year for routine visits. Still, you should contact us if you spot signs of a problem—including symptoms of gum recession.

A few of the symptoms of gum recession include brown spots on your gums, teeth that seem to have grown longer, and red or swollen gums. Receding gums can be caused by several problems. If you brush too hard or grind your teeth, you might have gum recession. If your issue is caused by brushing, you should consider brushing more gently or buying a brush with softer bristles. If you make unusual noises while you’re sleeping, experience regular headaches, or have a sore jaw frequently, you could be grinding your teeth. If you’re worried about this, please feel free to contact us.

Of course, you should also brush and floss your teeth every day if you’d like to avoid gum recession.
