The holidays are busy, happy times, and they are just around the corner! Make sure you follow these guidelines to prepare for a happy, tooth-healthy holiday season.

Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, for two minutes each time. Replace the brush every 3-4 months. If you haven’t replaced toothbrushes in a while, try buying toothbrushes in holiday colors and using them as small gifts!

Floss: Floss per day, taking 2-3 minutes each time. Use an 18 inch piece of single-filament floss and a gentle sawing motion to slip the floss between teeth; this action removes the plaque and food particles that cause tooth decay. If you are just starting out in your flossing habit, it is normal to feel a little discomfort. Don’t let that stop your efforts! Candy: Most holidays have a lot of sugary treats involved. Make sure you know how to handle them for maximum oral health. Make sure you eat sweets in moderation! When you do choose to eat sweets, don’t keep snacking on them for long periods of time. Eat a treat or three, then be done. Try chewing sugar-free gum afterward for 20 minutes; this cleans your teeth and prepares them from brushing. Be sure to brush and floss extra-well that day.
